Leaseback is a form of financing in which the owner of a vehicle transfers ownership of the car to the leasing company, receives a lump sum in return, and continues to use the same vehicle, while after the monthly payments are fully repaid the car is returned to their ownership.

Leaseback is especially relevant for people who already own a vehicle but need money at a specific moment. This could be a personal expense, business development, repayment of another obligation, or simply increasing financial freedom. In this case, selling the vehicle is not always the desirable solution - especially when you need it for everyday purposes. This is exactly where leaseback comes into play.

What Is Leaseback?

Leaseback is a way through which you can obtain money on the basis of your own vehicle and at the same time continue to use it.

To put it simply:
Your vehicle passes into the ownership of the leasing company, you receive its value in the form of a corresponding sum, and the vehicle remains in your use. During the term of the contract you pay a monthly payment, and after the term ends the vehicle returns fully to your ownership again.

This does not mean giving up the car or ceasing to use it. On the contrary - you continue to travel as usual, the vehicle is simply registered in the company's name during the contract period.

How Does the Process Work?

The leaseback mechanism consists of several logical stages:

You approach the leasing company and offer your own vehicle.

The company assesses the market value of the vehicle.

If an agreement is reached, the company buys the vehicle.

The vehicle is immediately handed over to you for use in the form of a lease.

You receive the agreed sum and begin paying the monthly payment.

After the contract ends, the vehicle returns to your ownership again.

It is important that the use of the received money is not restricted - you can spend it for any purpose.

How Does Leaseback Differ from Classic Leasing?

Classic leasing is used when you want to purchase a vehicle and need financial support to do so.

Leaseback, on the other hand, exists for a different purpose. It is intended for those who already own a vehicle but need money and do not want to sell it permanently.

As a result, leaseback offers you two possibilities at once:

to obtain the money you need

to retain the right to use the vehicle

This is a flexible solution for the case when you have an asset but need an additional financial resource.

What Steps Are Needed to Obtain Leaseback?

The process is simple and consists of several basic steps.

1. Submitting the Application

You can submit the application in two ways:

online, by filling out the form on the website

or by going directly to a branch

Personal data and basic information about the vehicle are required (number, make, model, year, and other technical details).

2. Vehicle Assessment

Specialists assess your vehicle and inform you what amount can be obtained and on what terms.

3. Signing the Contract

If the terms are acceptable to you, you sign the contract.

4. Receiving the Money

After signing the contract, you receive the agreed sum and continue using the vehicle.

Afterwards, you pay the monthly payment for the agreed term. After the term ends, the vehicle passes back into your ownership.

When Is Leaseback a Good Decision?

Leaseback is not only a way to cover a sudden shortfall – it is just as useful for planned, strategic goals, the moments when you decide to put the value of your car to work without selling it. It is a particularly good fit when you need money for unexpected expenses but do not want to give up the vehicle or stop using it daily. Below are the most common situations in which this product is the smart choice.

Business development and working capital.

Whether you are expanding operations, buying stock ahead of a busy season, or bridging the gap between payroll and incoming revenue, leaseback releases the value tied up in your car so the business keeps moving. You get the funds you need without pledging your business assets or bringing in a new partner.

Refinancing a more expensive obligation.

If you already use an auto pawnshop or another high-interest product, switching to leaseback can mean a lower effective interest rate. This is a deliberate, planned move for anyone who wants to ease the servicing of an existing debt and reduce their monthly payment – while keeping the car in daily use.

Seizing a time-limited opportunity.

Some opportunities do not wait – a discounted bulk purchase, favourable supplier terms, or a chance to invest at the right moment. When you have the asset but not the cash on hand, leaseback lets you act quickly and capture value you would otherwise miss, then repay it comfortably over the agreed term.

Financing a planned major event.

A wedding, an anniversary, or another large family celebration is something you can budget for in advance. A single lump sum through leaseback lets you cover the costs calmly and spread the payment over a term that suits you, rather than draining your savings all at once.

Investing in a property or a long-term goal.

When a good apartment comes up or you are ready to put money toward a long-term plan, the deposit or the gap between your savings and the target amount often needs to be covered without delay. Leaseback turns the value of your car into ready funds, so you can move on the plan while keeping the vehicle you rely on every day.

What Should You Consider Before Making a Decision?

As with any financial obligation, it is important to consider in advance:

whether you will be able to pay the monthly payment within the agreed term

whether the offered terms match your financial plans

how well the received amount matches your real need

A responsible decision will help you go through the process comfortably and calmly.
