Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need to take a separate driving test to add a new licence category?
Yes. If you already hold a driving licence and want to add a new category or subcategory, you will generally need to pass the relevant theory and/or practical driving test. The exact requirements depend on the category you wish to obtain.
2. Can I drive a manual transmission vehicle if I passed my driving test in an automatic car?
If you passed your driving test using a vehicle with an automatic transmission, your driving licence will include the relevant restriction. To drive a manual transmission vehicle, you will need to pass an additional practical driving test.
3. Can I add multiple driving licence categories over time?
Yes. You can add new categories to your driving licence at any time, provided you meet the minimum age and any other legal requirements for the category you wish to obtain.
4. Is a medical certificate required to obtain a driving licence?
Yes. A valid medical certificate is required when applying for a driving licence. It confirms that your health condition meets the requirements for operating the relevant category of vehicle.
5. What should I consider before choosing a driving licence category?
Before choosing a driving licence category, consider the type of vehicle you plan to drive both now and in the future. If you only intend to drive a passenger car, a Category B licence is usually sufficient. However, if you plan to ride a motorcycle or drive a truck or bus, you should review the applicable age, qualification, and licensing requirements for those categories to make the right choice.
